Burt Kwouk is a legendary actor best known for his role as Cato Fong, the loyal manservant and martial arts expert of Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther film series. Born on the 18th of July, 1930 in Warrington, England, Kwouk was the son of Chinese parents who had immigrated from Shanghai to England. Growing up, he attended the Henley’s Grosvenor School and after completing his education, he found work in the textile industry before pursuing a career in acting. Kwouk’s acting career lasted over five decades and he appeared in more than 100 films and television shows. He first appeared on screens in 1957’s Windom's Way, and became a household name when he was cast as Cato in the 1964 Pink Panther film, A Shot in the Dark. He went on to reprise the role in four other sequels, cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most iconic sidekicks. Apart from his work in the Pink Panther franchise, Kwouk also appeared in other notable productions such as the James Bond film, Goldfinger, and the BBC comedy, Last of the Summer Wine. He was also a prolific voice actor, lending his voice to numerous animated series and video games such as Samurai Jack and Perfect Dark Zero, respectively. Kwouk’s contribution to the entertainment industry was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards in 2013, and he was appointed OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 2011 for his services to drama. He passed away on May 24th, 2016, at the age of 85.
