I hope everyone's safe in Venezuela after the double quakes last night. There's been a lot of activity in many regions around the world lately. Earthquakes, waking volcanoes. Typhoons... Even some mountains starting to crumble in big chunks. Stay alert, stay safe. Don't ignore the warning signs.

Fossils and rocks

Within my geography lecture, all of these were brought out. I found the one closest and in centre to be extremely pretty, of which it is actually a fossil of a sea urchin.

Also, what did the emrald say to the graphite? You rock! I've had a weird obsession with Obsidian since I saw that one guys on YouTube make spears and arrowheads out of Obsidian with... Obsidian. Honorary mention to Amber, it's not a rock but it's so effing cool.

Sandstone. Weathered. Fine to coarse grain. 1st time we found this site, we thought it's limestone 😅 took a closer look and found out it's sandstone. It was a mine. Fossilized wood that my grandfather gave me a few months ago. It's been sitting on my dresser since October so it's dusty af. My grandfather found it in either a creek bed or old river bed decades ago. I'll have to ask him again I can't remember which.

Very little activity, strange

1/2 Either USGS doesn’t have access to good regional data, or the region doesn't have good seismographic coverage, or it really is an unusual event/setting because there are no small magnitude aftersocks detected, and I expected to see a swarm of them. (edited)
