I find travel is overrated as a goal in and of itself- I'm not as prone as most to the proximity high people seem to get standing next to famous things, apparently. Weather and geology might conspire to make paradise but so does air conditioning and adventures can as easily be found locally (edited)

Museo del desierto. Desert Museum.

In Saltillo, North East Mexico. An area well known for plenty fossils found and even more for the Dinosaurs skeletons found nearby. Other than a lot of Dino's, there are geology and local biodiversity exhibitions, cacti and some history.
