US Marshal Bill Tilghman. My greatx3 grandfather. His life was overly historically important, and often overlooked in US History. They have made a couple movies about him, but he's often overshadowed by the glamourization of less prominent figures. I've even gotten to lead a citywide celebration of him in Oklahoma.

Not necessarily my favorite historical figure, but it makes for interesting trivia. Back in 18th century Austria there was a physician named Franz Anton Mesmer. His claim to fame was something called “animal magnetism”. He believed that human ailments were the result of an unbalanced magnetic field. So he treated his patients with magnets; waving them around and whatnot. Fast forward; his treatments was just BS; but we got the word “mesmerize” from good ol Franz. 😸

Rafael Trujillo was a military general who seized power in the Dominican Republic and ruled the island from 1930 to 1961. Known as the "Little Caesar of the Caribbean," he is remembered as one of the most brutal dictators in Latin America's history. Found out he married one of my great grandmother's. So yeah have that dictator blood in me🤣🤣. He my favorite now 🤣🤣

March 3, 1940 #OTD World War II: German submarine U-29 laid mines in the Bristol Channel. British steamer Cato (Pictured) hit one of them later on this date, killing 13; 2 survivors were rescued by minesweeper HMS Akita. The ship was carrying 400 tons of general cargo.

Mexico at WW2

The SS Potrero del Llano was a Mexican oil tanker that was sunk on May 13, 1942, by the German U-boat U-564, commanded by Reinhard Suhren, near Florida. The attack was one of two incidents (along with the sinking of the SS Faja de Oro) that led Mexico to declare war on the Axis Powers.
