New here: a basic question

Hiya I'm kinda questioning how to distinguish date or friend interests on the matching page. I've got male, female and other selected for friends and for dating I've got female. Does the overlap of female in both categories make it indistinguishable for me to kboe what that person is looking for or how does this work?
