Is it safe to pet tarantulas?

I always scurry away when it comes out of its den, thinking it would either escape its enclosure or bite me. This one isn't venomous, but still, I assume their bite would hurt. But does it wish to bite? The title is semi-clickbait, I dont know if they like being pet-

Did you know guys that Tarantula kidnap frogs and raise them as pets .
