Happy Heavenly 17th Birthday, Cree. I miss you lots. 

Cree was my heart animal. I only got to know him for a little shy of 5 years, but my connection to this specific wolfdog had no limits. I did not expect to have this sort of bond with any animal, I volunteered with the animals because I love them. Finding my heart animal wasn't planned. 💗 Cree came into my life when I needed it most. 

Cree was a shy and skittish wolfdog. He wouldn't just let anyone pet him until he was comfortable with them. (He got better with trust during his last few years. If it was a new person with a volunteer he loved, he was willing to go up to them a bit more.) It was after the wildfire evacuation, when he was returned that he allowed me to pet him for the first time. Before it was just scent rubbing. 
He came to Shy Wolf Sanctuary at the age of 1 year old, severely neglected and malnourished. Originally, he was supposed to go to another rescue, but got to stay as he showed he improved with the volunteers at shy wolf. Forever grateful he stayed. :) 

He was shy, but he was definitely the leader of his small pack. It was an honor when the staff at the Sanctuary let me help take him to the vet (in case anything happened), he was well behaved and he was amazing on the leash when they let me walk him back to his enclosure. (He loved his enclosure. I still call it his even now. Lol). 

April 4th, 2022 was when I was asked to come in early to get him to eat without any other volunteers around. He picked his lips, but he turned his nose away. After I gave his bowl back to the staff, I went back over to him, and he 'told' me he was ready to go. I knew that day was coming based on health declining and his age. I had been waiting for that. It wasn't spoken with words, obviously. But he definitely communicated that through our bond. I totally bawled and told him how much I loved him. All the while he had his head lowered close to my chest. I was able to tell a staff member that he was ready to pass, that he wasn't doing good. Later that day, a vet came to help him cross over. The moment he passed, a strong breeze went through us. It wasn't a windy day. It happened the same moment he passed. I am still forever thankful he passed while I was there. He was the one animal I would've sped to. 

The founder let me have some of his ashes. Enough for a little urn necklace and a small urn. 💗 

He will always be my heart. I miss him a lot. I have hid paw print tattooed on my arm, a little portrait with Gladioli flowers. And later this year, I am getting the last picture in this post tattooed on me too. Cree and Mia. Mia wad his packmate and I grew close to her too. 

I smile at my memories with him. 💗💗💗
