first of all, "like everyone else" is such an oblivious thing to say. secondly, the dark tone, the mature characters, the plot and the music instantly hooked me afaicr. as opposed to anime usually having bright, goofy tones and literal children for characters. which isn't a bad thing whatsoever, but i was overjoyed at discovering something new and different.
