Understanding criteria for mvp

Here’s my conflict with the MVP award as of late, genuinely is narrative/momentum the latest indicator? As a Maverick fan, obviously I would love for Luka to win MVP, however looking at statistics along with standings and seedings Luka isn’t favored even if he has put up insane numbers and a 50-win season. However, Shai has gotten the one seed with a team the average age of a College team, and Jokic continues to assert he’s the best player in the league. Many media members lately have pointed out jokic is their vote, while others are screaming shai should be the one as the difference of records from the previous year has catapulted this team to a power position. It just feels like as it stands Jokic has the medias vote but now that Shai got the one seed for his team, the votes may go to him due to momentum and narrative of age and leadership. Why does the criteria for what is MVP change every year or two now?
