But Still Upwards

As a boy in Carolina, great oaks offered an escape branch to branch to open sky untethered, spread, exposed beneath, until fear yanked me, one hand grabbing where I'd stood, and so, the other one could reach. Sky still invites me, climbing's harder, but one holds so one can reach.
