How to better learn programming?

I have some understanding of node programming and some basic python but have never truly tried to be proficient at anything specific beyond what little I needed to know to get some small task done. Lately I have been more and more into game development and have reached the point where I might benefit, greatly, from knowing C# or the likes. Anybody out there has any advice as to where to start or good resources for learning on my own? It'd be much appreciated.
