My old favorite became a no-go zone once I hiked a few miles upstream & found the (now buried) former town dump leaking bright green slime into the river. Always wondered why aquatic life of any type was nowhere to be seen. I've heard from some boomers that the place was closed when they were kids in the 50s so I'm sure there's some pretty brutal stuff in there....DDT & other wonders of chemistry.
