What do you guys think about the series?

Okay, I have a question for the people who read the original books.

Don’t you think the show, even though it got some things right this season, lost a lot of what made the books special? 'Cause if you really look at it, the characters are kinda easy to read. All the characters they introduced — Percy’s friends, the camp people — everything feels really straightforward.

The jokes are good, they land. Percy’s humor works, Annabeth works, the games work, everything works. And all the things that happen in Percy’s journey make sense based on the book, which is honestly really good, especially for young readers, etc.

But do you feel like with this show, some things changed compared to what worked so well in the books? To me, it doesn’t give me the same feeling I had when I first started reading. In my opinion, the books are way better than the show. It’s an adaptation I really like, but I still prefer the reading experience. Also, I think they made the gods look even dumber than they already were in the books, and that kinda bothers me.

I say this because I started reading when I was a kid, and even rereading now, I still really like it. Not all the books I read as a kid still hold up now that I’m an adult, but Percy Jackson does. The show, though? I just can’t get into it the same way. If I had watched it as a kid and revisited it now, I don’t think it would hit the same way the books did.”

I can't like the series, and I don't know why.

What did you guys think of The Sun and The Star?

I love this

This is another vision of me of how a reader because I like Rick's books a lot, and read them for a long time and I feel that the sensations I had when I first read the books is not something I feel Seeing this series.

Regarding the script, I didn't like several choices in adapting the story. It seems that they tried to give a more serious tone at times, but honestly it didn't work.

I finished watching everything and overall I liked a few characters. The representation of Zeus and Poseidon was a disappointment. Zeus is already boring in the books, but in the series he can be even more unbearable. This is impressive, so bad.

I liked Percy a little, I thought the actor delivered the role well. Annabeth, for me, was the biggest problem. I have nothing against the actress, I think she is good, but the way the character was written and directed does not convince. In the series, Annabeth looks arrogant and petty. In the book, even when she is arrogant or implies with Percy, you realize that she has empathy for him and is really willing to help. This gives depth to their relationship, which gradually evolves, but in the series I do not feel this connection. It seems that they tried to reinvent it in a way that did not live up to the original character.

Grover, on the other hand, is good. I still prefer his version in the book, but he's one of the few who didn't bother me so much in the series.

My biggest problem is with the script. They took a lot from the mood that was always one of the saga's strengths. Percy's humor, that stupid and ironic way, was something that made me keep reading. His relationship with the gods in the books is dynamic, but in the series everything seems more theatrical and forced. The gods, in particular, were very caricatured, almost parodies of themselves. I know that in the books they are also stubborn and impulsive, but in the series this was exaggerated to the point of seeming ridiculous.

The pace of the book is great, and I expected the series to try to at least reach this level. A good adaptation takes the best of the original material and expands, but the series fell short of the book in virtually every aspect. If I had to choose between the two, I would read the book a thousand times without thinking twice.

Another thing that bothered me is how they simplified certain important moments and took the weight of striking scenes. When I first read the books, Percy's mood and relationship with the gods attracted me the most, but in the series it was diluted. The feeling is that care was lacking in the transition from the book to the screen.

Overall, I think the series works as entertainment, but, as adaptation, leaves much to be desired.

I really didn't like the adaptation, I still think the book is better.

A summary of the first season

Just prayed to Hermes (should I call him Lord Hermes?) this morning. Didn't late even though I woke up super late and had to wait on few red lights (I can't get rid the image of Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes).

I've been working on a fanfiction featuring Nico di Angelo and Will Solace, along with other under represented characters such as Walt Stone, Clarisse La Rue, NaominDolace, and Harley. I'm also using a mythology that canonically exists in the universe, but has never been used. I'm currently just over 20k words, and there's a lot more to be done.
