takkatakkatakkatakka (poem)

To write like Brit, do this: Try to recall that one thing you thought of while sitting on Bluebonnet Circle. Something about a man's jaw. Duh. Or a crooked mouth. How it appears like a typewriter carriage returned with a kiss to the chin. (take actual thing > compare to every thing you've ever seen before that most closely resembles that > work back) Briefly ask yourself if you get tired of it. If others get tired of it. If the marvel of being a pony is lost when one only knows, albeit well, the one trick. Line breaks. So start with that thought, but don't let it stay there. Sprinkle jokes that make sense when you read them out loud. When written, they warrant only an exhale though the nose, that same crooked smile cheshired. Don't rhyme on purpose, but don't fight it either. What do they call them? Kissin' cousins? Address yourself throughout, don't let this poem be about ANYGODDAMNBODYELSE. It is not for them. Poetry is not for them. It's for you and they are watching. And prob'ly you cannot get off if they don't. Don't make it too long. The poem, I mean. In the haystack of nonsense, try to find a point. At last, let the title respond to a question never expressly asked in the poem. Or expressly asked. Or lightly implied. Pat yourself on the back. You've done it again, Brit. - Brittany M Ortega
