Why do people sexualize mental illness? When did it become "attractive"?

I've had many conversations with my friends in the past and they would make comments like "she's hot because she is psycho". What I don't understand is why does mental illness make a person more attractive?

As someone who is hot and psycho, I feel like they associate being mentally ill with having a lot of kinks, which statistically they're not wrong 😅 I don't really like the sexualization of mental illness either but I think it's bc of that

Because they have demons, and when the lights go out they come out and play.

I have no idea. I keep hearing about this crazy/hot scale or whatever. It’s always centered around sleeping with a “crazy” woman and leaving before she does something crazy to you. However, that seems like you’re taking advantage of her if you know she has issues and you’re going to add to them by pumping and dumping her. Gross. From what I’ve noticed and read, a lot of people with mental illness are more easily manipulated and abused, so horrible people purposely seek them out.

If they call a girl psycho, because of her wierd ways, that's kind of understood. That those ways makes her different. but if they call "hot" someone with actual mental heath problems, dude your "friends" are psychopaths. Help them.

Only they can help themselves. I tried explaining why that is unhealthy but they don't want to hear it.

Adryan hello. When someone call someone psycho, it's not mean that the person have some mental illness. It's more like figure of speech. So why people find "such" behavior attractive? It's very simple they found attractive the unpredictable, the independent and boldness.

Characters with mental illness are being promoted in media. If it's on a screen someone will eventually idolize it. Some people, especially those with more nurturing natures, are drawn to people they feel they want/need to protect (or fix). People with mental illness may have lower self esteem or otherwise feel like there's something wrong with them, which might attract people with more predatory tendencies to them (you see this a lot with people who call themselves "doms" I believe) Personal note: I've dated crazy(as in mentally unwell), I don't recommend it.

Mental illness does make people attractive and unattractive because mental Illness change the whole mindset of a person. If a person is trying their best to look the best it means they are seeking for help to get them out of this torture chamber. You can easily observe the physical health of a person but no one can observe the mental health of a person until they open up. Beside every smile of a person there is a hurt side caused due to mental illness

It's not thou. For me I'm a little psycho. So I would love someone else who is as psycho as me. You r right ppl do need to stop sexualizing it. It's not a look, it's a mental health thing.

People are seduced by the feeling of danger and "adventure". But there are always consequences.

No idea. That stuff is very strange to me. Emotional maturity and dealing with mental illness is sexy to me.

Because it's not about the person, it's about the one time sex. Shallow womanizing.

I don't like that its been normalized. Don't remember who did it or why they did it but they need to be put in a huge jacket. Because know people are getting away with it annd the wrong people are getting hurt emotionally, mentally, and physically and it's causing good people too miss there opportunities or fix up the person we're dealing with
