This is one of those stories or tales that I've always heard about, gotten snippets of, saw 1 movie adaptation of it but never the ballet itself. For a while now, I have been wanting to see it, so this year I took the opportunity to watch it finally. 
The opening was very chaotic and crowded with the "everyone at the party scene", there was a lot going on in the foreground and background so it was hard to focus on what was important or if you focused on one thing, you're going to miss out on something else. 
For the second half it was very sparse. Apart from the dance of the sugar plum fairies, you only had a couple of people dancing for each thing. 
Maybe it's just memories of watching Fantasia but the Russian one (sabre dance) feels like one where they have a lot of people on stage, not just the one dancer. 
All in all, I did somewhat enjoy it. If I was to see it again, I would hope to get better seats.

First Ballet Experience

I'm thrilled to share that I had my first ballet experience today! 🤩 I learned the basic positions and movements, and I'm excited to continue exploring this beautiful art form.

Attended my first ballet performance in years.  Thought I'd "post" the magnificent view.  🫤

My Way

In a village in 19th-century Europe, Duke Albrecht goes to the countryside for his "bachelor party"... So to speak. There, on the beginning of the harvest festival, he falls in love with a cheerful, innocent and sweet girl named Giselle and decides to court her. She, in turn, gets enchanted by the disguised guy, despite the warnings of Hilarion, a gamekeeper who was also interested in this peasant.

During the feast days, a group of noble hunters arrive at the village. Among them was Bathilde, Albrecht's fiancée. Suspicious, Hilarion discovers the Duke's lie and unmask him in front of everyone. Giselle, embittered by disappointment, despairs, goes crazy and dies of nervous breakdown.

In the middle of a clearing in the forest, at midnight, with the moon over the young peasant's grave, where Hilarion mourns the loss of his beloved, Willis, the ghosts of betrayed women who died before getting married, approach. They, led by the queen, Myrtha, hunt down and kill men to avenge their fates. Hilarion, thus, ends up being murdered by them and the spirit of Giselle is summoned.

Right away, Albrecht arrives with flowers, weeping with guilt and remorse. Giselle appears with forgiveness, but Myrtha proclaims him damned, and he must dance until he dies before dawn.

Giselle struggles to delay the Duke's death, protecting him with the cross of her tomb, and she succeeds until sunrise, when the Willis must return to their graves. Therefore, Albrecht escapes the Willis' powers and so does the girl, who can now rest in peace.

So... It's a type of dance show that tells a complete story within itself, similar to a play, with scenes and acts. The difference, however, is that in ballet no one speaks: everything is said with the body and facial expressions, using choreography and pantomimes, which are the gestures or "mimics" of ballet, a kind of universal language used in all countries where it's danced.

Some of the most famous repertoires are: Swan Lake, Giselle, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Coppélia, Le Corsaire and Sleeping Beauty.
