One of my cats does this as well. He likes to enter through the Dutch kitchen door. So when he finds it closed, he would meow us to death until someone opens it up for him, even when the top half of the door is open, and/or the front door is wide open AND he was just there a few seconds ago 🤦🏻‍♀️😅
