Plot twist: it's walking flat on the floor but the floor is just weird

To me it appears to be heading down. I interpreted the shadow as being cast from behind and above, indicating light in that direction. I also think, based on the body language, it's stepping down rather than tensing to step up. Is it possible the opposite is true, entirely? (edited)

because of lighting and architectural reasons, the cat has to be walking down, and anatomically, a cat wouldn't look that way walking "up stairs"
