How did you improve from your first cosplay vs your most current one?

My first cosplay was of Pistachio from Mameshiba. It was some badly sewn dog ears, an army helmet  spray painted tan, a tan hoodie, and green hair chalk that hardly showed up in my dark hair.

Now, I paint, dye, and modify all my stuff. Still building up my confidence to sew my own stuff though.

Can't find my old photos of my Megatron. So here's my robocop one of my first costume i build.. before cosplaying im a props maker and crafter, i tried cosplaying when the first movie transformers was released.. scenes then i build many movie replicas and start cosplaying.. now im building chainsaw devil form for my client and primal(tf7) for the movie premiere

For starting/improving I would say start with ones that don't need a lot of work, then use the experience/tools for your next cosplay.

For example, I did Ooblek (RWBY), who wears mostly normal clothes but has green hair. Easy costume, and now I have a green wig for other characters if I get more ambitious.
