On This Day in History - March 21, 1945

March 21, 1945 #OTD World War II: The Japanese made the first operational sortie with the Yokosuka Ohka (Cherry Blossom) suicide aircraft. The sixteen Mitsubishi G4M2e bombers of 321st Squadron launched aircraft were intercepted short of their target and were forced to jettison their piloted weapons. The difference in the American fighter pilots vs Japanese was stark! Japanese pilots had around 40 hours flight time prior to combat, vs something like 500 hours for the US fighter pilot's.
