Learning new languages are the apps worth it?

I've always wanted to learn a new language, probably French since I live in Canada and would be able to better communicate with the French part of the population. Had anyone had any success with language learning apps such as Duolingo, babble, Speakly? Or is learning a language something you're much better of still attending a class at the local colleges?

I don't know the other 2 apps but I don't think Duolingo is very good to learn languages, it always gives you weird sentences haha. You could also search some courses in YouTube

I've used Duolingo to learn some Spanish, German and Japanese and it has worked alright. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it does work if you just want to learn the basic and have enough time to actually sit with it and repeat for long periods of time. I think most people claiming it's bad think they are going to learn to speak a language fluently in a week, that is not the case.
