Motorcycle or ME?!

Question

I work with the motorcycle community. I hear alot of comments like "my partner won't let me ride anymore" .. "I had to sell my bike because my new partner doesn't like them" ..along those lines. Just not supportive of the passion or won't ride with.

Would you date someone who doesn't like the lifestyle?

Would you stop riding just because your partner doesn't like it?

There is no girl I would stop riding motorcycle for. I personally think if you can't appreciate your partner's hobby, you might simply not be compatible. Hobbies is a big part of a person's personality.

What sets riding a bike apart from most other interests is the danger. When your partner likes you, which I hope they do, and are at least somewhat invested in a future together with you, which I hope they are, they don't want you to injure or kill yourself.

Relationships, commitment, take sacrifice. That can mean having to, or choosing to, sacrifice free time, hobbies, or other relationships for your relationship with that person, because you love and care about your partner more than anything else in the world.

I'm not saying you have to give up riding in a relationship, but sharing some of their perspective

I feel that we all need our own past time. You can't be up each other's keester. You need your own thing so you can refresh yourself so when you come back to each other you have patience, you have a hunger to want to be around each other. If you are on a leash all the time, when you are "set free" to do your thing you might not come back because you are always around each other.

Your question is if we would date someone who doesn't like the lifestyle. I suppose that's a little vague but I think I would say I could. We don't have to share all the same interests and hobbies. It would be nice to bring her along from time to time though.

However if it ends up as your examples then absolutely not. It's totally unreasonable to demand that someone just removes something that is a big part of their life.
Almost the same as if I would get together with someone who rides horses or whatever and demand they quit, because I don't like it.

You know, or at least should know, what you're getting yourself into when it's come that far. Then you should just have ejected yourself earlier on if you couldn't handle their hobbies or life choices.

Would I date someone who doesn’t like the lifestyle? Of course but they have to understand I won’t stop riding. 
Would I stop riding because my partner doesn’t like it? No, she would know I was a biker from the beginning & I won’t give it up. 
People that sell their bikes because their partner doesn’t like them are giving up a part of who they are & that’s never a good thing in a relationship.

I'm sure if you told your partner they had to put their beloved fur baby up for adoption because you don't like their pet.... that would be unfair and quite mean! Lol how can someone be allergic to motorcycles?
