My favourite drawing of the year. I started sketching him on a bench. A nice summer's evening. Over time, I started to feel the friendly presence of this towering structure and gradually became fond of him. As we became fonder the personality of Adriaan began to be expressed more on the page and I was able to appreciate the little quirks of his charm. I tried to express the inherent dynamism of his forms and I gave all of the windows expressive friendly shapes.

Botanical Drawings

I'm the botanical garden it was my first time seeing cacao leaves growing which was exciting. The patterns are very complex. (The picture has a banana pod but the cacao leaves are behind it). I loved the bamboo as well. All different types. Very inspiring. Always have a soft spot for bamboo.
