Fun... yeah, 'Fun'
My first d&d campaign that I dm'd for, I homebrewed a world for my players to explore. It went well! They saved a town by restoring water, kicking out exploitative merchants, and stopping a drug smuggling operation. Then they decided to march off towards a small invading brigade of mercenaries who were employed to take over the town due to the players disrupting the employer's drug trade. Dm's plan: players had 3 months to prepare the town to fend off brigade. Players would help in the defense, thus making things easy for all parties involved Players: they grabbed a wagon, painted on the sides, "The Scurrvy Troupe" (A PC's character name was Scurrvy Booty), built a quick-setup-stage, grabbed a bunch of stuff for their destraction/circus show, and set off to meet the battalion. Surprisingly they managed to pass all the diplomacy checks and proceeded to put on a pretty entertaining show for the battalion. What I failed to mention was that the PCs brought the drugs that was being smuggled to the town, and spiked the drinks of all the battalion..... Needless to say, the PCs leveled up after that... and the 3 session finale that I had planned was quickly canned and I had to scrounge up a new story line right quick.

1st Campaign advice
So I'm DMing for the first time and making a Lovecraft/Heart of Darkness adventure for my party but my problem is this: How do you stop yourself from doing too much background? I tried to make some basic background for a couple of key NPCs and wound up drafting a timeline for a civilisation that... read more

What NPC was the most loved by your PCs and why
Gort the goblin merchant. With a great grungy Boston accent and swindling any person in sight, My PCs 'convinced' him to help them smuggle the party into a town that wanted them captured for a particular reason that may or may not have to do with a major case of arson. Anyways, long story short... read more

What is the most elaborate trap you made or thought of?
Not too creative, but: Long hallway that leads to a small treasure horde Treasure is piled atop a reverse pressure plate. If even one peice of gold is taken the trap will activate. First, hidden doors for hallway fall locking players, who decided not to step inside treasure room,... read more

I LOVE DMing, I even have my own homebrew setting I've bene using for over a decade. It's always nice to be asked to join a game though. Let's me build my random characters since I'm always building NPCS

Rogue hates traps
Perhaps it's left over from previous editions, also countless video games where the rogues are the trap monkeys... but either way rogues like messing with traps for the most part. Well tonight I tormented my rogue player. As part of his rogue class training finals before his academy stay comes to... read more
