Antiques ahoy.
I apologise for the inevitable trauma. Hand stitched Mr. Punch puppet head, collar and rod - date unknown. Punch and Judy, a popular duo since 1662, are arguably the first ever 'cartoon characters', featuring the jolly jaunts of a serial killing, wife beating jester and his love of making his baby into sausages. While the traditions have changed somewhat, there's no doubt that the character is still an enormous part of British pop culture. This fabric example is from a stick puppet, rather than a glove puppet, and is hand detailed. He's rather shabby in appearance, which adds a nice bit of local flavour, and apparently needed a few running repairs to his bulbous nose and chin!
