The Man who was Left Behind

In the silence of my heart, a quiet wish does lay. For I wasn't so easily dismissed, or thrown away. The ones I held so dear, in fear of their dismay. Yet, none feared losing me, to my own disarray. I gave my all, in hopes they'd see, A reason to stay, not to flee. But as they turned, setting themselves free, I was left alone, a forgotten tree. How I yearned to be their necessity, Not just a chapter in their history. But my plea for love, a mere fantasy. Leaving me adrift in endless misery. Each goodbye, a deeper cut, A pattern formed, a painful rut. My heart, once open, now firmly shut, In the echo of doors slammed shut. And so, as night falls, my wish still yearns, For a love that stays, for someone who learns. But the cold truth, harshly discerns, I'm a lesson people forget, as the world turns.
