Willow

Waxen leaves and sheaves of paper, Willow woven through my mind, Enshrouds the grove all dark and dreaming, Embracing all I’ve left behind. Burdened now these barren branches, Deep the bough has come to bow, But ever stood I still repeating, Dust to dust with furrowed brow. Witness now the tears of autumn, Witless is the soul in pain, Eager passion ever beating, Plead our hearts return to flame. Yet still the soul will long to savor, Hope then Love then Loss in kind, Bitter thoughts on gentle branches, Color sorrows left behind. Color all the world around you, Till light is lost and love has died, Waxen leaves and sheaves of autumn, Willow woven through my mind. -by me for a friend who recently lost their mother
