Why do women tease?

Starting since middle school, girls (including ones I DIDN'T have a crush on) liked to tease me. Not picking on me in a mean way but... they knew exactly what would make me blush and would often make me blush for fun and laugh when I did. I'm often questioning why because I've never gotten anything more than "I don't know" or "because it's fun" except one girl who actually said it was because I look so innocent. Also, this was happening when I didn't know my gender yet. Can anyone really explain why they do this?? (edited)
