Isn't it the point? To be comfortable with someone that you don't have to keep trying all the time? There definitely should be some effort, doesn't matter what phase of realtionship you're in, of course.

For me the point is to be with someone where it doesn't feel like a chore to keep all of those mental notes about what they want, and how they want to be. That pack of gum you put in the basket without thought because you know they have an oral fixation and just love having gum. Or you see a little trinket that has the character they like on it and so you just grab it because no big deal. I don't think it's about no longer putting in effort, but that showing love is effortless

Relationships can go thru seasons, it's not linear, relationships can have lows and highs, they can't always be at its peak "as when they win you". What makes relationships strong is being able to weather the lows and take advantage of the highs. People also go thru their phases, people shouldn't always expect their significant other to be at their best all the time and sometimes they need help and people should be there for their SO during the good and bad times.

If you ask me people rarely have any idea how to just relax and just let people be whatever they are. I don't want my relationships to take effort at all. I want them to flow like water. Effort is for things that need to change not for dealing with people who can't be happy with themselves so much they constantly demand more from their partners.
