My thoughts on sarcasm...
One thing that many people seem blind to about sarcasm is that in order to appreciate it, one must be willing and able to explore the context of it, meaning what the user intended as well as how it could be received by the "audience". Both delivery and reception of sarcasm often takes a bit of curiosity, courage and imagination to uncover and thus, more fully appreciate... Else the sarcasm usually "flies over someone's head". (That's another idiomatic expression for all non-native English speakers out there... 🙂) Why I like sarcasm: it allows for a funny "play on energy exchange" in dynamic... often hilarious, but contained ways... Ranging from finding it funny to taking offence to it, depends almost entirely on the shared relational basis... For example, if we read the same books or watched the same TV shows as teenagers, then in our 20s or beyond, we could possibly find our sarcasm appreciation to have more things in common, than not. There does appear to be a "foundational factor" at play, when considering formative, cognitive development... This is one factor related to why people from different parts of the world do not get one another's complexity or depth of sarcasm, and this often affects how it's appreciated - or not appreciated! 🤠 Perhaps, the same can be said of humour in general. Of course I wanted burgers!' 🤣 I'm not complicated enough I guess to read sarcasm and i'm 1000% fine with this.
