This was highlighted in their Vice article where-in the band said, "Though we started playing together in the DIY hardcore scene, we all come from different places. Egin grew up in the vibrant Toronto indie rock scene of the mid-aughts, looking to local bands like Broken Social Scene and Do Make Say Think for inspiration. Eslin and Emmett both studied music at the University of Toronto, and bring their own respective classical backgrounds into the fold" The song "Bound" comes from their album Dénouement and is a climactic blend of classical, post-rock, black metal, and 90s screamo. The inspiration of the song came from the time one of the members checked thenselves into an in-patient treatment facility for substance abuse. The band cited this topic as the source of their lyrics, "The song is a reflection from the final moments of active addiction, that first desperate yearning for something better, something different. It deals with honest introspection and its painful consequences—the opening of the floodgates to the traumas that led us down this self-destructive path, and the subsequent fallout. Through all this, the song is about wanting to be more than the sum of our scars." As Respire continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in screamo with it's most recent album "Black Line" it is important to appreciate the foundational elements of a song like "Bound" as it invites difference and innovation in a genre which can be plagued by sameness and trendiness

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene.

What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical...

To scream or not to scream

Follow rock fans, what do you think about screamo? For me, I can be jamming out to a song, but as soon as the singer starts screaming I turn it off. I don't mind a little screaming every now and again, but not the whole song.
