Macasar - Aborigin

In the past, Makassar people had bartered goods/commodities with Aborigin people. It was so familiar that some aborigin people came to Makasar, and Makasar people settled in Australia & New Zealand to teach animal husbandry/farming. At the start of the rainy season, Aborigin people line up along the beach waiting for the Makassar people's ships. It was a wonderful time for the Aborigin people. After the European invaders arrived, Makasar ships were intercepted and prohibited from coming to Australia. Initially, transactions were only for bartering sea cucumbers. But then from there, Aborigin people got to know knives, rice, metal, spices, and so on. So the connection with Makassar has great significance for the Aborigin tribes of northern Australia. The Aboriginal people's longing for the Makassar people is expressed in cave paintings there, depicting the waving hands of people on the ships. (Paul Thomas from Monash University)
