What movie was better than the book?

We lost a legend this week. David Lynch wad not everyone's cup of tea, and his work often either misunderstood, or not understood at all, but it made you think. 

His take on DUNE is still one of my favorite movies, with an equally amazing score/soundtrack.

O Captain my Captain

Looking at the seriousness of the topic and it's cinematic execution , this film didn't deserve to be released theatrically, but should have rather taken the Prime (OTT) path at the first place itself, which director Shoojit Sircar's previous two films 'Gulabo Sitabo' and 'Sardar Udham' took. Nevertheless, this is a film that subtly touches determination, parenting, and generation gap in a brilliant manner. The film focuses on a marketing wizard who undergoes multiple surgeries and defeats Cancer. Throughout its Hollywood style execution, Sircar successfully brings out the career best performance from Abhishek Bachchan (couldn't imagine anyone else in the lead role) and he also pitches in some 'Piku' through the moments shared with Bachchan and his on-screen daughter (a killer Ahilya Bamroo) with a dash of Bangla culture. Veterans Jayant Kripalani and Johnny Lever along with Kristin  Goddard are riveting and they bring lots of freshness and richness to the film. Hats off to Ritesh Shah whose astounding scripting seals his position as the most reliable screenwriter in Indian Cinema right now. Overall, do yourself a meditative favour and watch this film. Gave me the impact exactly how "Wonder Days" gave me.

The Blues Brothers

A passable yet once-must-watch action flick with a simple story yet stylish treatment which carries Quentin Tarantino's signature with some rootedness and sturdy (and stylish) characters. The film focuses on two characters, belonging to two different extremes of life; one who seeks revenge and the other, who seeks knowledge, encountering each other in a club within the Western Ghats, that's famous for its armed weapons (guns mostly). After the sickening 'Neelavelicham', director Aashiq Abu comes out of his slumber teaming up with acclaimed writer Syam Pushkaran almost a decade after the cult classic 'Maayanadhi' to create a film which stars another of their associate Dileesh Pothan (the multi-talented 'Potato' of Malayalam Cinema). Despite a few useless songs and few loopholes in the screenplay, the film churns out some stylish characters where the women take over the front and the male characters remind you of the finesse of the likes of Samuel L. Jackson and Brad Pitt. While Darshana Rajendran felt out of the place (her expressions were too annoying), Vani Vishwanath, and Unnimaya Prasad were riveting.In the men, the rapster Hanumankind is a shocking yet pleasant surprise, Vijayaraghavan is top-class after spilling magic in 'Kishkindha Kaandam', and Anurag Kashyap? Well, he should now focus on acting as he is actually good in the game. Watch this film over drinks and friends for some Desi Tarantino Tadka.
