Terminator: dark fate

Flow (Animated/ 2024); HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Suppose a European film comes out of nowhere and challenges Pixar in such a manner that it ends up being part of the Cannes and the Winner of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film (2024). In that case, you need to see this one for displaying such great minds of steel. This dialogue-less film revolves around a cat who struggles to find his mark amidst the rising water levels of his natural habitat, and how he seeks solace in other animals, to whom it was once hostile. The animation work might not be as 'accurate' as that of Pixar, but the direction is riveting, humane and a masterclass in filmmaking that celebrates nature and the camaraderie within its elements. Director Gintz Zilablondis comes out with flying colours with his gentle offering. 

Superboys Of Malegaon (Hindi/2025): Soft, riveting and gentle, a film that celebrates the passion of cinema. Focusing on the real-life story of some cinema enthusiasts from Malegaon (Maharashtra), though the film wasn't a necessity to be made, for it was already documented in a documentary film, 'Superhero of Malegaon' (2008). But okay, just to address the void of original and barely known stories, Excel Entertainment pushes itself with this story from their neighbours, which, to some extent, clicks well. The portrayal is decent, but is elevated by performances where the boys right from Vineet Kumar Singh to Adarsh  Gourav engrave love in your heart with their brilliant act. This is India's Cinema Paradiso. 

Crazxy (Hindi/ 2025): An intriguing one-character-led film where the screenplay is the winner, which succeeds the direction (both by Girish Kohli). The film follows the dilemma a person faces in paying a ransom for a settlement. But then he hits another roadblock. Would he succeed? Despite the slightly draggy direction, the screenplay is layered, factual and intriguing, and Sohum Shah comes with flying colours when it comes to repeating what Sunil Dutt did in his production 'Yaadein' (1964). Tinnu Anand is a gem as the "antagonist" (watch the film to know why the double highlight), Nimisha Sajayan is again wasted in a Hindi film/ programme and looks more of a misfit. Rest, Shilpa Shukla and Piyush Mishra are great. Watch it for a fresh, detailed and pacy experiment. 

Veera Dheera Sooran Part-II (Tamil/2025): Now, while this biggie Tamil film got an OTT release one month after its theatrical release, one may get that last year's Producers' strike in Tamil Nadu, there was a massive failure. Anyway. Disastrous and disappointing are the words I shall use to describe this film, where an intelligent screenplay gets bogged down by downmarket direction. After Malayalam Police thrillers, it is the Tamil revenge (or vendetta) thrillers which I shall be getting rid of, as most of them follow the same pattern, which are led by some major actor fighting off the goons picked from some random street. The direction tries to combine 'Yojimbo' and 'Chekka Chivantha Vaanam'. Honestly, Vikram doesn't offer anything in his performance. And he is just repetitive. Yet he is rescued by SJ Suryah, whom I felt was the real hero. I felt very bad for Suraj Venjaramoodu, who was wasted despite his earnest act. He in Tamil Cinema is just like Nimisha Sajayan in Hindi Cinema, , duh!  Yeah, the same couple from 'Thondimuthalam Driksakshiyum' and The Great Indian Kitchen', duh! G.V. Prakash's score is another disappointment, whose work felt as if he was stoned while doing so, and out of nowhere, he comes with the typical Vikram massy signature tune. Yeah, the Action direction was good. While the makers say that this is the second part and they will come with the first part, I would be merciful enough to give that a miss because this instalment was more than enough, where the sub-plots give a huge head-spin.

Stand-Up Suit-Up Show-Up

It is intriguing and engaging where social evils, matters and black magic are quite smartly amalgamated. The pace and performances are amazing, where Rajat Kapoor shines. Monika Panwar in the lead is part-okayish and part-mediocre, whereas Geetanjali  Kulkarni, Shilpa Shukla, Shalini Vatsa and Chum Darang carry the baton well. While the number of episodes could have been reduced, what is worth noting is that their duration doesn't follow the cliched pattern of running time and the engagement is fast-paced. 

Having said the above, my complaint is based on the fact that the narration is layered and fresh, yet the quest is nearly cliched. The production design is a big let down where even the names and portrayal of some Delhi spots have been pathetic. Some moments and interactions, especially in the final episodes, look overdone and dragging. For a non-horror person like me, the thrills and chills didn't impact me much. 

The victory of 'Khauf' lies within the characters and detailed portrayal of women harassment that can be seen by a non-horror person for the pacy and intriguing storytelling.

I assure you, it is deeply entertaining. I made the mistake of watching the actual movie, and it is an absolute disaster to watch. But the plot of this movie, is hands down one of the most insane ones I've ever seen.
