Hmm, clearly something's gone horribly wrong as in could-be-a-movie-scene-where-sonething-truly-horrible-could-have-happened-to-them so, I'd definitely try my best to reach out and talk to them, discuss what went wrong and has been going wrong till it burst before engagement.
