A long time ago I wrote about Tliltocatl albopilosum nicaragua. Recently, on Sunday, one of the specimens I own moulted. 

After inspecting of the ventral part of abdomen from the moult, I know that Fluffy is actually Fluffitta. This can be seen in the photo below, where the female reproductive organs are clearly visible.

Was stomping around yesterday evening and found this beauty. About as big as my palm with all the legs outstretched. I definitely could've gotten closer since they're not venomous but I didn't want to disturb her more than I already was.

Dark Fishing Spider!

Also known as the Guatemalan tiger rump tarantula. It is one of the dwarf spiders (but not the smallest) with no strong venom. But even then, it can protect itself by kicking hairs if provoked. 

Despite its small size, the spider can be fast and sometimes defensive. Other times, however, it can choose to escape when disturbed.

 The most characteristic featute of this species is a black tiger-like pattern mixed with orange and copper-colored stripes on its abdomen.

Tliltocatl albopilosum nicaragua, also known as curly-hair spider, inhabits parts of Central America. What distinguishes it is its numerous and long hairs called filiform hairs or trichobothria which are used to sense things around.

Widow spiders are a genus of spiders that includes several species, such as black widow spiders and brown widow spiders.

Widow spiders prefer to nest in dark, undisturbed areas, such as near holes made by small animals, wood piles, and construction openings. Low shrubs are also common sites for widows. 

The Black widow spider generally loves to live in warm regions. Specifically, in America, it is usually found in the Southern United States. They are also found in all four southwestern deserts: the Great Basin, Sonoran, Chihuahuan, and Mojave. Black Widow Spiders are also often located in Florida and Texas.

Meet Jumper

During the warm months in the desert, these tiny wolf spiders can be found easily at night. Shining a light across the ground, their eyes shine and sparkle like stars. This one was nice enough to let me take a picture.

So, I reached behind my light that's next to my computer to turn it off when I saw THIS not-so-little guy!

My relationship with spiders is rather complex. While I love learning about just about all of them, there are few spiders I call friends like cellar spiders and jumping spiders, I'm just fascinated by other spiders that AREN'T huge and DON'T look intimidating as all hell, but hate seeing black widows and such. Bold jumpers are really cute, yet straight terrifying for me, so despite being happy to see him, the circumstances in which I saw him sure as hell triggered an arachnophobic reaction from me 😂

Anyway, I tried getting him to move off of my light so I could catch him and take him outside, BUT, after about 45 minutes of trying to tap the area around him with an about 5-foot-long rod, blowing on him from afar, harshly fanning him with a thick paper, I gave up when he didn't want to budge at all. In the end, I hit the switch on the back of my light WITH the rod to turn it off. Apparently, he isn't exactly too fond of the dark, most likely with his species relying on sight to catch prey and all unlike other spiders, because when I checked back minutes later, he was gone! Absolutely nowhere to be seen 😭

I'm really going to hate going to my computer tomorrow 😅

Next day:
I caught 'em! He was somewhere entirely different, but on the ground so he was much easier to catch. Honestly, I always feel kinda bad about evicting spiders like that even if they do prefer the outdoors. I wish I could pet spiders while releasing them to show them that I'm not kicking them out out of spite, but just out of fear 😅
