Some classes are hard

So I started a huge campaign with my 6 buddies and everyone chose something cool and unique. Well it being my first really big campaign I went with something more fun than Meta. I chose to be a "Hillbilly Half-Elf" and unfortunately in this world there aren't many Firearms so I chose to be an Artificer Artilerist and my DM was kind enough after a few sessions to let me find an antique flintlock. Now we've probably had around 12 six hour sessions and we're all level 6. After our most recent boss fight I have officially determined that my character is close to useless... while yes I have utility and certain spells that are pretty great, I just CANT hit anything because all of my spell save DCs are still so low and probably will be for a good amount of the campaign. Other people in the party are doing 40+ damage a turn with 2 attacks and I'll be lucky to even hit 1 out of my 2. Does anyone know any ways I can beef up artilerist??? Or am I doomed to be the "no-hit wonder" of the group....

Ive not played much with the class. But in years prior, the artificer was never a main damage charcter. More an every tool for every occasion. Crafting items that they happily use. wands, potions, mundane gear. Like stated from other comments infusions are your bread and butter. And you of course run off int, so your spell dc is based off that. Those two areas should be your focus. However, the first thing you should be doing is talking to your DM. Share frustrations and maybe they can do something on their end. Like give you a few magic items, offer other non book rewards, or throw a few encounters in the mix that you are better suited to over the beefy hitters of the party. Talking things out is always the better idea. This also leads to other points. Like are you happy with the charcter? You gave it a try, but if you arent having fun i dont think anyone would blame you for changeing. It happens. You didn't fail or make something terrible, its just not for you. And this is something you can work out with the DM too. The other idea would to be just give in, and work out ways to support the other charcters. Be the one that locks the door behind so nobody sneaks up on you. Be the one that flanks with the big damage dealers to give them advantage. Be the flamethrowing maniac that sets fire to the room and forces the bad guys to flee. Unless everyone at your table is obbsessed with damage, there is always something else you can do.
