Happy D-Day!

Apparently, today is 80-year anniversary of Allied forces entering Normandy, which lead to the start of liberation of Western Europe in the Second World War. As a war refugee and a granddaughter of a WW2 veteran, this is quite a significant date and fact I think is worth celebrating, but would totally miss if I didn't check the app of news and videos for learners of Norwegian. I imagine it can cause different reactions based on which side your country took during the WW2, and family history. Sorry if the post has caused you any distress. #Norwegian #kahoot #education #elevkanal #france

Happy D-Day!

It's not a day to celebrate. We lost more soldiers on D Day alone. Than every conflict since WW2 combined. It's a day that we should take stock of. We lost over a quarter of a million soldiers in one day. In Vietnam we lost around 50 thousand total soldiers, and that war nearly tore this country apart. We had draft dodgers, and anti war protests. Soldiers being spit on and called baby killers. Since we Vietnam we have not lost half that many soldiers in the conflicts since. You see we have not had a real war since World War 2. The world has a short ignorant memory. When they don't remember history. We keep being drawn closer, and closer. To war on a scale we have no concept of. We need to take stock of days like today, and put them into perspective. Also remember other horrific days. Like the bombings of Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.2 whole cities wiped off the face of the earth. Men women children new born infants seniors just gone in a flash, and a mushroom cloud. These were not military targets. These were just average sized towns. About 70 thousand people, and the weapons we have today make those look like firecrackers.

Quite unfortunate and sad even.

A Russian T-80BV tank, which was hit by Ukranian fire, losing a track and with the crew killed/wounded- but the engine was still running. And it will keep running until it's diesel supply runs out. #friends
