His family cared deeply about people and was active in the humanitarian. A lot of death and victims at the battle of Solferino, Italy, 24 June, 1859 moved Dunant's heart who was in the situation of the battle witnessed the suffering of the victims. Henry Dunant then wrote his experience into a book entitled "Memories of Solferino" which contains two important ideas : 1. Establishing an international volunteer association organization to help the soldiers who were injured on the battlefield. 2. Creating an international treaty to protect soldiers injured on the battlefield, volunteer protection, and organizations when providing assistance during the war. He became one of the founding figures of the Red Cross who also initiated the Geneva conference in 1863 then followed by the Paris conference in 1867. He died on October 30, 1910 at the age of 82 and is buried in Sihlfeld cemetery, Switzerland. The award achieved by Jean Henry Dunant was the first Nobel Peace Prize awarded by the Norwegian Parliament to him and Frédéric Passy in 1901.
