A word to the ladies and younger gentlemen: Know your car.

Know what you're driving (make/model/year) and have, at least, a basic level of automotive knowledge. There's nothing worse than taking your car in for a simple oil change (yes I could do it myself, no I don't want to), and having male mechanics assume you're vehicularly uneducated. Their goal is to try to sell you things you don't need because they get paid for labor (as they should). Mechanic: you're going to need new tires, 3 of them are worn Me: no they're not, all 4 are less than 2 years old and I check them regularly Him: ok but there's a nail in the right rear and it's irreparable Me: that's weird since I just got it permanently repaired 5 months ago Him: your driver's side taillight is out Me: no it's not, there's a short somewhere between the pedal and the bulb Him: ok but your cabin air filter is... Me: ...is something I have at home and will replace myself Him: 😳 oh I understand some of y'all aren't into cars, and that's perfectly ok. But if I can give y'all even the slightest bit of advice; at least know what size your tires are and how to tell if they're worn/bald, know what the correct pressure is (there's a sticker or metal plate inside the door on the frame of your car with that info), know what kind of oil your car uses, know where your cabin air filter is and how to change it, know how to change a flat should you ever need to. Don't let these guys convince you to spend hundreds, potentially thousands, of dollars signed, --your local mom friend
