Goethe - Mabie shares a great example of reference by Goethe about people wanting originality from others and here we can of course rule out that art would be the common denominator but in all forms of our lives this would certainly fit just about anywhere. So, for my reference I will re-quote with his response to his own question of “People are always talking about originality, but what do they mean?” His response, as stated, “As soon as we are born, the world begins to work upon us, and this goes on to the end. And, after all, what can we call our own except energy, strength, and will? If I could give an account of all that I owe to great predecessors and contemporaries, there would be but a small balance in my favor.” -Goethe (edited)
