When, in my mid forties, I try to strike an interest with someone of the opposite sex by way of compliment, it is increasingly taxing to not only see that I will not be able to sustain the intellectual interest in conversation but will be painted in the light of seeking only immediate satisfaction by said compliment. It would be refreshing to find someone that has enough moxie to accept a compliment for what it is and move on to challenge me to engage in thrilling discussions. Just because we have roles in society, it does not preclude that we are all novels of experience and do not necessarily bend to any given archetype.
