Would you forgive someone for throwing away your food

Question

So I spent hours making a cake, the frosting and some pudding some scratch just to have a family member throw it all out because "no one wanted to eat it"

I told people if they didn't want it to just leave it be and I'll deal with it because I actually loved my cake.

I might forgive but their action has a consequence. Never ever again will I make anything for them. We were raised to never throw away food, no matter how much money you got. It's forbidden. Better share with a homeless than throw.

That is unfair to your time and effort. People have different tastes but that is no reason to throw food away when someone may still want to eat it and the person who made it still wants it. Especially with how much effort and care you put into it.

Not if you told them to leave it if no one wanted to eat it. It's more than just "wasting food" (though that's offensive on its own): They disregarded both your contribution to the gathering and your (perfectly reasonable) request that you would take care of what didn't get eaten.

I wouldn't say it's a big enough offense to disown or end any relationships, but I'd be thinking twice (and thrice) about making anything for them again, even if specifically asked.

That’s just mean. My two cents is that said family member was actually jealous of your work and was looking for any absurd excuse to act. Did nobody else intervene to aid you?

In the end I guess the lesson learned is: don’t do anything for those relatives ever again, neither count on them to put a good word about your work with other people. The cost of learning this information was just a cake. Cheers!

Good evening, Lilly. Excellent post. Thank you for sharing this. I wouldn't forgive a family member if they did that. That just means they're selfish. They could've just said that they didn't want any. It's a shame they did that. They failed to realize that you did in fact took the time and effort to make that cake. Ironically, now a days family isn't always family. They will tend to disown you in a heart beat. Sometimes family aren't loyal to each other. I found that out a long time ago. Okay, now I want some cake. lol

Forgiveness with an understanding that trust has been wittled away.

It's important to forgive. Not for the other, but for the self. Holding onto anger builds up and it will release on someone that is innocent. Maybe not too different from your situation. Who knows what ails them whenever they threw your stuff away. Not saying it's justified, just that I can understand. None the less, childish behavior cannot be sustained if it happens frequently. If their suffering in life can be taken out on others. That person isn't worth your time.

Ultimately you are a better judge of your situation, just remember that humans make mistakes. We are far from porcelain. It's far more accurate to call us ore. Jagged and course. But with the right amount of work, we can be as valuable as any jewel.
