Presentations and Progress

My second day at the warehouse course was an enjoyable experience. We didn’t spend much time on the workbook; instead, we focused on preparing and delivering a presentation to the class. We were allowed to choose any subject except Newcastle United or Greggs, as the tutor had seen those topics too many times before. I’m not usually a fan of presentations, especially when the subject is left wide open—it can feel impossible to choose something from everything. Thankfully, the other two members of my group were more decisive, and we settled on “How Children Use Technology.” We thought it was a strong choice, given our different ages and experiences. We decided to use PowerPoint, and I took responsibility for putting it together. We made five slides covering the key points we wanted to discuss, each with a short paragraph we could refer back to. We spent about two hours on this before heading out for lunch. I came back early to give the slides some extra visual flair. The other group presented first, on “Good Customer Service.” Their presentation was very detailed, with 16 slides—four times the size of ours. I was impressed, and hoped ours would measure up. Once we began, my nerves settled. I was able to reference the slides but also add points I hadn’t typed out. My teammates did the same, and I was impressed by their contributions. My only frustration was with myself—I wasn’t sure what to do with my hands and kept catching myself touching my face out of nervousness. Afterwards, we filled in the workbook, reflecting on what we’d done and identifying our strengths. We spent the last 20 minutes of class chatting about food, films, and holidays. All in all, it was a good day.
