Why is it hard for LGBTQ persons to come out once they become aware of their sexual preference?

It's in how people react. It's terrifying. People sometimes don't see a person anymore. They see something they can hurt or neglect. Over the years people have greatly improved as more and more people come out. Different sexualities have slowly become more acceptable to families and societies.

I'd imagine homophobia playing a large role

No idea but I imagine it's common with fearing the unknown. People just gotta realize that the time will come and they'll realize that holding back is holding them back from living their life. So let the world know when's your ready but don't let it control you. That's my viewpoint from outside that community.

I'm only going to speak from my point of view, so if you're experience differ, that's normal. I only came out to a few number of close friends I knew wouldn't judge me. But I didn't come out to my mother or my brother, as I know they can be homophobic at times, and didn't have the energy to face the discussions and arguing that telling them would cause. Also, who I spend my nights with mostly concerns me and my potential partners, so it's not something I want to advertise anyway 😅

Because everyone already has a fixed image of you in their head. I was even forced to come out which was very uncomfortable.
