Reflection V Rumination

Being one of lifes ruminators can be exhausting. A lot of times I hear introspection being spoken about like it’s some sort of an upgrade but there's a cost to that when your brain lacks an off switch. Over time my own mind developed a 2nd layer that watches the first layer then the two start looping each other, then it feels like my thoughts are observing my thoughts and consequently neither layer ever gets to rest. The really annoying thing is that sometimes it doesn't even need a big trigger to do that. It can be an awkward silence or a neutral expression. My mind will still instinctively grab it, turn it over, poke it, prod it, replay it endlessly until I've learned every micro moment like it was a puzzle that needs solving. 🧠😅 If you recognise yourself in any of this. Hi. You know the drill too.

Observing yourself like an interested outsider.

I can relate! I've put in massive efforts to controlling my thoughts, and stopping the spiraling that would normally ensue. I feel like I'm super powerful now😹 because i used to be a prisoner of my thoughts and anxiety.
