Why the gender imbalance in the population?

Question

Random musings for the day... statistically, at birth, male to female ratios are higher all around the world, but over the ages, the ratio tends to swing the other way round... curious to know thoughts on why this might be the case? Even more curious, why are some countries (e.g. the world's most populous China and India) swinging one direction and others not? China for example, has been male biased due to its one child policies (and shipping off female babies for adoption etc)... This is seen when the population of an animal is typical in danger or winding closer to being threatened. I'm not sure that's true, but I recall reading it somewhere.
You need more females to repopulate after a global catastrophic event.
Seems though the population is fairly balanced across the board with Russia and China being higher exceptions to the rule.

I saw a documentary last year about an all man village in India. There were virtually NO WOMEN there. Apparently, a baby girl had not been born in the village in decades because they would kill the baby girls that were born. 😥 A family of 3 brothers were one of the groups of men that were interviewed for the documentary and they complained about there not being any women in their village so that they could find wives. They lived with their elderly mother who looked like she was in her 80s.

Well, if they didn't kill all the baby girls decades earlier, they would have women in the village that the men could possibly marry, instead of some men having to search for wives in other villages, and having to pay money to relocate them there. 🤷‍♀️

As I know, during life man mostly have higher risk to kills themselfs, they more drinks, taking Rosja that kills them, have poor health, so mostly women survives during lifetime. But in China and India they always want only małe, because in India if you have a girl, you should pay large money to marriage, so in India better to have boys. They not only work for the famaly, they do not go from famaly, but other famaly would pay you for marring your boy. Same is in China. There is so much presure on women, she must marry someone till her 30 years old, she goes to famally of her husband, so I guess, that poor traditions end up with more man that women in the long term, today you can also know about sex of the baby, so many women decide to have an abortion if it id a girl. So in China now there are millions people who never find a wife for themselfs, imagine all Chech Republic of men and there are No women for them…
