Cats have scent glands located on various parts of their bodies, including their cheeks, forehead, and chin. When they rub their face on objects, they are essentially marking their territory. This scent-marking serves multiple purposes; it helps the cat feel secure in their environment, communicates ownership to other animals, and even serves as a way to bond with their human companions. Basically, when a cat rubs its face on you or your belongings, it's a sign of affection and trust. Face rubbing can also be a way for cats to gather information about their surroundings. The act of “bunting” allows them to deposit their scent while simultaneously picking up new scents. This exchange of smells provides them with important information about their environment and the creatures within it.
