When does it go too far?

I love dark humor and clever jokes even if its rude. But where do you draw the line? Personally I don't know where to draw it, but I think if you go too far to the left you should also go too far to the right so you can see both sides so your boat doesn't tip over

I think it depends on the crowd. I don't get offended by many jokes but I would if it was over and over again beating a dead horse. I think some people have a hard time seeing comedy as it is - it's a vacuum. It doesn't mean the person saying the joke actually holds those views. When I'm listening to standup I don't consider my own opinions or feelings on things, I just listen to the joke, if it's funny I laugh. Doesn't matter the subject. It doesn't mean I "agree" with the subject line of the joke. It's just a joke, not a debate.

Everyone draws that line differently so kinda hard tbh. I love my fair share of dark jokes, but if someone tells you to stop then chances are you are probably on/crossed the line already.

There's a concept in comedy about "punching up" and "punching down". Basically, if you're "punching down" at someone who is already typically not treated well in society, it's like seeing an injured person be assaulted. It's miserable for anyone with empathy, which is most people. If you're "punching up" at someone who is generally treated fine or even better (or is the one treating people unfairly), then that's more likely to be funny. The line is where it would cause more suffering to a person, group, or organization that is already suffering from societal unfairness.

Time and Place yknow? Imo if its a joke its a joke. There are always gonna be assholes trying to take a joke seriously. The important thing is to stand up for yourself without being condescending. Stand by your jokes, but alert the person that everyone has a diff sense of humor and to your crowd this passes. To them they can move along
