Love, care, empathy and compassion have all become a rare currency

Unpopular opinion, but Paul Bloom's *Against Empathy* is onto something in that it's attacking a darker reality most people won't touch. 🤔

I was raised to practically worship empathy, but I realized that feeling doesn't always translate to caring. My own life experiences and what I've observed on anonymous apps have given me plenty of reasons to question the way we idealize empathy. 🤔 (edited)

Why do people ghost on dating apps? Just be mature and say "hey this isn't working" The dry one word replies and then ghosting is so immature and shows complete lack of empathy for your fellow human. Frustrating.

Apparently, the association between empathy and aggression is pretty damn weak (r = -.11), according to this 2014 meta-analysis. Lol this article was actually pretty damn interesting because psychologists just unwrapped the myths about “empathy” Apparently all these processes aren’t interchangeable, but can still exist under the broader concept of empathy.
