Happy Birthday, Cap

Not celebrating Independence Day this year? I don't blame you. If you need a holiday of some kind: it's also Steve Rogers' birthday! Sure, celebrating a fictional character's birthday is silly but idk, I still believe in this Great Experiment. We have stumbled a lot, and will continue to fail regularly, but this country has so much potential. We just need to get it right. So I'm choosing to celebrate the ideals rather than the reality. Cap is a conduit for that. Yes, aesthetically, he is a blonde-haired blue-eyed poster boy for the Nazis but look deeper. He's the disabled child of immigrants. He judges people on character rather than appearance. He is loyal to those who prove worthy of it. He stands when others would prefer to do nothing. He's a representation of our collective potential and I just like it. I'm watching a Cap marathon today so all this stuff is just on my mind. Thanks for hearing me out. Happy 4th to you and yours. Be safe out there.
